Nillumbik Emus Orienteering Club

2008 Maxi 3 Hour

Report and results now available

What is the Maxi? : Individual orienteers and teams of 2-5 people navigate their way through the bush to visit as many controls as they can in a 3 hour period. Controls are worth varying points, taking into account difficulty of navigation and distance travelled. Navigation is medium difficulty, and route choice is very important.

This event caters for both beginners and experienced orienteers - the moderate control placements are well suited to those learning to navigate while the longer time allowance lets experienced orienteers stretch their legs and have a longer run than normal.

When? : Sunday 14th September - Registration opens at 9:30am.
Mass start at 11:00 am

Where? : St George's Lake - about 60-70 minutes from Melbourne

About the area : Recently updated St George's Lake Map - 1:10,000 scale, 5 colours, 5 metre contours.

Control sites will be pre-marked on map. The area presents a diverse set of technical challenges, most of the forest is open and easy to move through, but the sometimes complicated spur-gully terrain offers ample scope for the feet to move faster than the brain.

For the budding orienteer, the area has a reasonable number of tracks (most of which are actually marked on the map).
