the Maxi? |

Individual
orienteers and teams of 2-5 people navigate their way
through the bush to visit as many controls as they can in a
3 hour period.
Controls are
worth varying points, taking into account difficulty of
navigation and distance travelled. Navigation is medium
difficulty, and route choice is very important.

Orienteering Map - 1:15,000 scale, 5 colours, 5 metre
contours.
Control sites
will be pre-marked on map. The area presents a diverse set
of technical challenges, most of the forest is open and easy
to move through, but the complicated gully/spur terrain
offers ample scope for the feet to move faster than the
brain. Pockets of old gold workings, which require close
attention to map detail, complement the other challenges.

While the maxi is
famed for its detailed post-event analysis (provided by use
of electronic timing) and comprehensive web site - we were
unable to negotiate access to the Sportident equipment this
year. Nonetheless, a comprehensive set of results and
pictures from the event will be provided.

last year's
results to see the sort of detail offered. |
